Half Day Introduction

Suited to: People new to off road driving or new vehicle owners

Key objectives: Learn the basic workings of a 4x4 vehicle, understand the controls and gain experience of a variety of off road obstacles. Emphasis is placed on time behind the wheel.

Duration: ½ Day sessionCertificate: Certificate of attendance issued on completionPre course requirements: No previous experience necessary

Instructor Ratio: 1:3

Off Road Driving

Suited to: Drivers with little or no off road experience. This course may also be a follow up course to our half day introduction

Key Objectives: Learn key skills to tackle obstacles that you are likely to find in your local environment. Each delegate will be given maximum driving time to allow you to practice and perfect the techniques learnt.

Duration: 1 Day

Certificate: Certificate of attendance. This course can be run as and assessed course and certificate of competence can be awarded by prior arrangement.

Pre course requirements: No previous experience necessary

Instructor Ratio: 1:3

Advanced Off Road Driving

Suited to: Customers who have previously attended Level One Driving

Key Objectives: To provide an advanced level of training and provide customers with the skills that they need in order to make progress ‘in the real world’.

Duration: 1 day (guests must have completed the level 1 certificate)

Certificate: Certificate of attendance. This course can be run as and assessed course and certificate of competence can be awarded by prior arrangement.

Instructor Ratio: 1:3

Basic Terrain and Techniques

Suited to: Drivers required to use their 4x4 vehicles for work purposes over benign off-road terrain who require a basic standard of competence in entry level techniques. This course can be tailored to incorporate elements of the working environment. This course does not however cover techniques which could improve delegate productivity, for which the two day LANTRA Awards 4x4 Professional User course - or an additional one-day LRE Level 2 course - is recommended

Key Objectives: To provide delegates with basic techniques to tackle the main obstacles they are likely to encounter over benign terrain and established tracks, together with the ability to make safe decisions based on an assessment of the potential risks before attempting a manoeuvre based on their ability, the obstacle, terrain and prevailing conditions.

Duration: 1 day

Certificate: Assessed course with feedback

Instructor Ratio: 1:3

Observers’ Course

Suited to: Those who work in an off road environment, who may be asked to supervise inexperienced drivers, an off road convoy or during a corporate event.

PLEASE NOTE: this is NOT an instructor qualification.

Key Objectives: Delegates will learn the skills required to supervise novice drivers in a non-challenging off road environment while maintaining safety and providing guidance on key techniques.

Duration: 1 day

Certificate: Oral review and assessment. This course can be run as an assessed course and certificate of competence can be awarded by prior arrangement.

Instructor Ratio: 1:3

Level One Recovery

Suited to: Any Driver for on and off road purposes

Key Objectives: Understand the safe working principles of using recovery equipment so as to ensure that recovery is both effective and safe.

Duration: One Day

Certificate: Certificate of attendance. This course can be run as and assessed course and certificate of competence can be awarded by prior arrangement.  

Instructor Ratio: 1:3

Adverse Weather Limited Traction Training

Suited to: Anyone required to use their vehicle throughout the winter months. This course combines a mix of theory and practical training.

Key Objectives:
Carry out a thorough daily check and understand the reasoning behind it.
Understand the basic workings of their vehicle to include drive train, suspension and traction and  enhancements.

Appreciate and quantify the risks involved in adverse weather/limited traction conditions with particular reference to flood conditions.

Understand the limitations of their vehicle.

Identify safe routes and demonstrate correct vehicle set up.
Carry out a thorough "resuming tarmac" check, fully understanding all legal and safety requirements.

Duration: One Day

Certificate:
Certificate of attendance. This course can be run as an assessed course and certificate of competence awarded by prior arrangement.

BORDA - British Off Road Driving Association

BORDA is the UK's only professional Association dedicated to Off Road Driving at Authorised Venues throughout the UK. Offering training courses in Off Road Driving, ATV Quad Bikes and Winching, we are proud to hold BORDA membership and will be offering BORDA training courses in early 2016

 

As a BORDA training facility, we are authorised by the IOPD International Organisation of Professional Drivers who are Empowered by Statute 1371, Authorised by the Secretary of State for the Regulation of Off-Highway Auto Events BORDA has Codes of Practice for:

Authorised Under the Road Traffic Act

 

 

Basic Level 4x4 Safety Awareness Course:
Mild slopes, around 15 degree with run out areas and reasonable traction

A standard for private and commercial drivers who use 4x4s regularly but only drive in mild off-highway conditions which may only give reasonable traction such as mud, grass, gravel, snow & ice.

The Basic Level is a half day course at 2 - 1 ratio or full day at 3 - 1 ratio.


Standard Level Off Road Driving Course:
Moderate slopes, and reasonable traction

A standard for private and commercial drivers who may use 4x4's in off-highway areas of moderate difficulty.

The Standard level is a one day course at a maximum ratio of 2 - 1


Higher Level Off Road Driving Course:
Steep slopes and low traction

A standard for operators working in unknown conditions and likely to encounter situations that require a high level of training and skill. This level confirms competence at the standard level then extends the drivers skill to cope with situations up to the vehicles capabilities. It also trains drivers to assess and recognise situations beyond the vehicles limits which must be avoided.

The Higher Level is a two day course at a maximum ratio of 3 - 1


Certificates:

Certificate of Training
This is issued to candidates subject to demonstrating competence to complete all units of the prescribed level whilst under tuition.

Certificate of Proficiency
This is issued to candidates subject to demonstrating competence to complete all units of the prescribed level un-prompted and will involve continuous and final assessment.

LANTRA Awards Approved

LANTRA

Lantra is a nationally recognised Awarding Organisation with over 40 years' experience of developing quality training and qualifications. Training is recognised by the regulatory bodies Ofqual, SQA and qualification Wales to award qualifications.

Lantra courses can only be delivered by instructors who have reached the highest quality standards and have therefore been awarded the 'Lantra Awards Approved' status.
